How Dutching Works

Dutching means splitting your stake across, in 'The Honest John Method' 3 horses so you are actually betting on 3 horses to win. You receive the same profit whichever one wins. 3 chances instead of one!

Why Do You Not Post Selections Everyday?

I want to keep a 68% advantage so I select races where the data gives us a genuine edge. I avoid conditions that destroy form and keep the bank built on probability, not hope. I only tip races where you can “read” the field like a map so I sit out the madness. That's how we can all grow the wallet by being patient.

The 3-Horse Strategy Explained

I give you 3 horses: Winner, Danger, and Value E/W — Some days I give you two races, others one. - On two race days you are hoping for a double win! This fits dutching perfectly and if one race produces a winner and the other doesn't you have protected your stake. It's not about big winners because that brings big losses regularly. This method is slow and steady to fatten your wallet!

Dutching for profit can sometimes produce expensive bets?

Yes that can happen when the odds are tight. What I suggest you do in that case is use the calculator for stake. Here you enter the stake you wish to spend and the calculator will spread your bets for a total of that amount. Quite often this will return the stake plus profit. However, it might return less than the stake as profit. But hey remember you get the stake back. So if you regularly turning your small stake into 150% as a return its a winner!

Dutch the field or Lay the Favourite? Why would you do that?

Sometimes there may be a strong instinct that the favourite is overvalued and you want to bet against it, or simply to say it wont win. Sometimes laying the favourite on the exchange gives a better risk–reward than dutching the field. Yet depending on the odds it may be better to dutch! Here’s how to know with simple green and red light. Take out the guess work. Takes into account the exchange commission

About Honest John Tipster

Hello, my name is Paul — Honest John to my friends… and you now, of course. 🙂

Over the years I’ve fallen in love with the game: the form, the fences, the daft decisions and the glorious surprises. Somewhere along the way I started quietly testing a simple, disciplined strategy built around three horses in a race — a main bet, a danger, and a value each-way play.

That approach has been hitting at around 68% when you follow the system properly. No magic, no inside information — just structure, patience, and a bit of cheeky bookmaker maths. I decided if it works for me, it should be free for you too.

Everything here is yours to use and share: the daily selections, the Mini Bet Angel calculators, and the strategy ideas I’m still refining as we go. If my tips give you a winner, a better staking plan, or just a smile and a story to tell, I’ll call that a good day’s work.
