What to expect!

The beginners course is designed specifically for those that are brand new to photography and not too sure about all the knobs and dials on their DSLR and for those that are returning to photography after a break and could do with an in depth refresher course.

The day starts with an outdoor location where I cover the basics of taking good images in daylight situations. Once we have covered the basics of depth of field, focus, metering, camera settings using manual mode I move on to explain how to improve the pictures using professional methods.

On camera flash so that a sparkle is added to the picture without turning the scene dark, ensuring a natural looking yet dynamic image. Spotting and using available reflectors, turning average pictures into great images.

After lunch in a local hostelry food included the afternoon is spent in the studio where each trainee will have a chance to be hands on and use the studio lighting, flash meter and radio trigger. You will learn a basic set up that will always allow you to produce fantastic images every time so giving you the confidence to experiment knowing if it all goes wrong you can return to your basic set up. This method I teach has proved time and time again to work really well.

All day I am checking with each participant individually if they are understanding what they are doing and ensuring they are making great images and at the end of the day you will receive a handout that covers everything we cover during the course of the day to ensure everything stays fresh.

Feedback

The day was well organised and I learnt so much in one day.
You have a very practical hands on approach to your teaching and it get through to me very quickly.
Your vast experience shines through and you are also very patient with people with dumb questions (me).
Sammie was outstanding and she also contributed to the relaxed atmosphere.
From a practical point of view I will keep my eye on your website and look out for upcoming
1 day courses ( I think you are too far away for 1/2 days).
I never expected to end my first training day with such outstanding photos.
Many thanks once again

Thank you for such a great training day.
I learnt so much thanks to your enthusiasm and guidance
coupled with the magnificent Sammy Jo whose energy and experience helped enormously.
I will certainly be back for some more!
Is it possible to do a session on portraits, or shots to waist level?
Either as a group or singularly?

I really enjoyed the day and feel I learnt from it, though I can't really think of anything I would change, save for perhaps you relocating your studio closer to me.
It was also nice having Stuart (assistant) present too, as it meant you were free to concentrate on the instruction, rather than carrying kit/taking photos/conversation etc.
